FDPR COMPLETES VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION TRAINING FOR THE LAWRENCE CEDARHURST FIRE DEPARTMENT

FDPR  is proud to announce the completion of a 12 month comprehensive analysis of the recruitment and retention of volunteer EMS providers for the LAWRENCE-CEDARHURST FIRE DEPARTMENT in Nassau County NY.

The study was funded through the NYS Volunteer Recruitment and Retention Program.

FDPR was able to provide recruiter training for recruiter coordinators, members and senior staff and provide actionable direction through reusable and replicable power points and bi-lingual learning aids and direct instruction. The study identified measures to retain current members and avenues to explore new members in the diverse community. The project funded the translation of recruitment materials and training material to Spanish and the purchase of textbooks in Spanish to help volunteers pass the rigorous training required today. The program also provided Spanish language mentors to help volunteers during hands on training and in studying for written tests. FDPR produced ads for local Spanish speaking newspapers and translated posters and other displays.

“Spanish language speakers in the immediate area were identified as the immediate direction LCFD should be going to find new volunteers” said Christine Orsano, FDPR President. To our knowledge, this is the first English as a second language volunteer firefighter recruitment program in the nation”, Christine concluded.

FDPR is a certified Nassau County and New York State Minority Woman Owned Business.
